The question I get a lot is what in the world do I do different to get top dps and do more dps then others. This was a high question when I wasn't as geared as almost everyone and still obtaining top dps. I don't know to be honest! So I figured I'd post what I do to get where I do.
First of all my spec.
http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=4&tal=30502000500000000000000000002520510500350102231005012515000000000000000000000000000
With this spec it's focused around a perfect rotation with the use of both my weapons in one talent, Close Quarters Combat. I see a lot of people who use other weapons than Fist Dagger which this spec is key for. It's not that other weapons aren't good. Fist dagger is just the best atm. However it isn't or shouldn't be a HUGE difference. I've noticed most people with a similar spec the only thing I've changed because I notice the difference personally is getting Imp Evis instead of Ruthlessness in the Assassination tree. Why? Because I'm able to get a perfect rotation with out Ruthlessness making it useless. My eviscerates crit for almost 14k now. Which is much more useful then a mere 1 combo point after a finishing move. I'll explain why I'm able to execute a rotation so easily next.
Most people state that they usually get 3 pt snd / 5 pt rupture / 5 evis/envenom, or 3 pt snd / 5pt rupture / 5 pt snd / 5pt evis/enven etc. It's all too much! Mine is simple and I'm able to execute it each and every time with time to spare. 5 pt snd / 5 pt rupture / 5 pt evis. Repeat. Maybe it's the glyph usage that I'm able to get it? But with Imp slice and dice from talents and Glyph of slice and dice it should give you 35 seconds. Plenty of time to get each 5pt ability out. In fact with imp sinister strike glyph I'm sometimes able to use Evis twice in a SINGLE rotation.
Next is why I use Eviscerate instead of Envenom. I have personally tested both of them and I found that even though Envenom ignores Armor, Eviscerate is way better still. Why? My guess is that I get Improved Eviscerate from Assassination and Aggression from Combat, equating to 35% increase in Eviscerates damage. Whereas vile poisons will give you 21% to Envenom. When I tested the difference my Evis were critting for 10-11k. Envenom was doing 8-9k. Mind you I was Naxx geared but there were no changes to either ability since then. Like I stated, I'm getting about 14k evis crits now. Also I grabbed the Eviscerate Glyph giving me a 10% more chance to crit with it. Fully raid buffed I'm at 54% crit. Giving evis a 64% which is damn good odds.
Finally is how I use my CDs. I've noticed this a lot, and it's made a huge difference. Rogue CDs with the combat spec are Adrenaline Rush, Blade Flurry, and Killingspree. The first CD I use is Killingspree. You want to use this ASAP as it will most likely be up a 2nd time in a normal boss fight. I usually use this when I have no energy as you regen energy while using this ability. So what I do is open with Garrote, get 5pt snd asap. With relentless strikes you will get 25 energy straight after and use SS again to get 1 or 2 more combo points. As a blood elf I use Arcane Torrent as well at this point to get 1 more out then when I use that last Sinister strike I do Killingspree. By the end of killingspree I'm able to use SS again until my 5th point using rupture and quickly eviserating then repeating with a normal rotation to get 5pt snd then 5pt rupture. BUT I then use Adrenaline rush after the 5 pt rupture. Which is followed by about 2-3 eviscerates before my snd is over. From there it's just pure rotation, until Killingspree. Bladeflurry? You can use this at anytime during then. I typically use it right after I use snd to get max speed, seeing as you're getting the most damage out of white hits. Also using snd + bladeflurry + a speed pot during bloodlust is INSANELY fast. So if you can time that right, it's GG.
I'm going to finish this up with some basic Rogue stats that are needed. Then! MY SECRET TO AOE!
Hit Rating
Yellow hit: You have a 8% chance to miss against level 83 bosses.
99 hit rating with precision, or
263 hit rating without precision
Poison hit: Poisons are spells. Spells have a 17% chance to miss versus a boss. Additionally, a shadow priest/moonkin provides 3% spell hit to your raid. Precision also increases your chance to hit with spells by 5%. You need:
237 hit rating to poison cap with a moonkin/shadow priest in the raid
315 hit rating to poison cap without a moonkin/shadow priest
446 hit rating to poison cap without a moonkin/shadow priest/precision
White hit: White hit refers to autoattacks. Autoattacks have the base 8% chance to miss, plus a 19% dual-wield penalty, requiring 27% hit to fully eliminate them. You need:
722 hit rating with precision
886 hit rating without precision
You absolutely do not need to hit this cap. In fact, it's not possible to do so without utterly gimping yourself.
Expertise:
You need 26 expertise (not rating) to eliminate boss dodges.Weapon Expertise and racials will count towards this value on your character sheet. Anything past 26 expertise is completely wasted for raid DPS, and should be avoided. So with weapon expertise you need 16 expertise from gear or whatever. Bosses can dodge from behind. Just sayin lol.
Oh almost forgot! If you don't have t8.5 4 piece set bonus stack Attack Power gems (as long as you're not messing up any hit gems or anything of the sort). If you have the 4 piece bonus stack Agility Gems. (Rupture critting is INSANE)
Sidenote before my 4 piece I never used Rupture and I still beat the other Rogues in Echalon or whatever Ghost's old guild name was. I used 5 pt snd and 2 5pt eviscerates. If you don't have the 4 piece; try it. It may or may not still work.
AOE!
It's actually quite simple. I utilize my CDs in to my AOE and it's GG! Oh acronyms... Anyway! Lets take the Thorim fight where I end up tanking 4-5 mobs because of 20k dps. I run in pop blade flurry off the bat and then killingspree hitting nearly every mob hoping that with tricks on sang gets aggro (he doesn't). I quickly pop Ad rush and FoK spam hitting every mob 4 times because of blade flurry. Each one is hitting for 2k critting for 3-4k. Since blade flurry is still up thats 2k-4k x4 on each mob. Math? 8k-16k on each mob nearly each second or two(since ad rush is up I'm able to use FoK like mad!) Of course the aoe slows down once the cds do, but I'm still able to maintain 7-9k with it regularly.
There you have all my trade secrets. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have.
Edit: I'm sorry I have nothing to say about Mutilate, I've not had a Mutilate Rogue beat me or come close yet. So I have no opinion.
